What has Hammarby done?
Hammarby IF has today introduced Ahmed Abdirahim in a new role as top talent manager and scout. Sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg stressed that the return is a major step for the club's sporting organization on the men's side. Abdirahim, who previously worked in the academy and HTFF, now takes responsibility for talent development off the pitch.
Why does this matter for the team?
Abdirahim has previously served as a social coach for players such as Williot Swedberg, Adrian Lahdo and Nathaniel Adjei. His experience as a player manager at CAA Stellar gives him a wide network and a keen eye for young prospects. In his new position he will work closely with the most promising players, support their mental growth and join the recruitment team.
How does Hammarby’s current situation look?
At the moment Hammarby sits 2nd in Damallsvenskan with 60 points, after 19 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses from 26 games. The side has scored 72 goals and conceded 19, yielding a +53 goal difference. Despite a strong recent form (WWWWL) they are 4 points behind leaders Häcken. The top scorer is M. Nyhagen with 2 goals in 11 appearances.
What can we expect next?
Abdirahim expressed great excitement about returning to Årsta: “It feels really great to be back. I’ve missed the colleagues and the whole club feeling.” His focus will be to follow players’ journeys and share knowledge gained from the agency world. With his background in both academy and agency work, a more integrated development strategy is expected to boost Hammarby’s title chase.
How does the new appointment fit the club’s strategy?
By merging scouting and talent management into a single role, Hammarby aims for a smoother transition from youth squads to the first team. Abdirahim’s previous work at Hammarby TFF and as a player manager gives him insight into both player needs and market demands. This could lead to more internal breakthroughs and smarter signings on the transfer market.
What does the sporting director say?
Mikael Hjelmberg commented: “Ahmed is an extremely valued person and colleague. His social competence and broad network will become an important part of our development plan.” With this new addition the club hopes to maintain its competitiveness both on the field and in recruitment.
