Hammarby IF has recently proposed to the city of Stockholm to build a new football arena on the site where Söderstadion once stood. This is to ensure that the women's team is not forced to move their matches to other cities. The club's chairman, Mattias Fri, emphasizes the importance of a medium-sized arena to support women's football in Stockholm. He points out that there is room for both a hockey arena and a football arena, which would benefit all sports. Hammarby IF has already played European matches for several years but faces limitations at Kanalplan where the men's team also plays. Fri expresses concern that the women's team may have to move their Champions League matches to other cities like Uppsala or Norrköping, which he considers unworthy for a capital city. A new arena would not only solve these issues but also increase exposure for women's football, which is crucial for its development. Hammarby IF hopes to play in a new arena with a capacity of 10,000–12,000 spectators, which would provide a better platform for the team and attract more fans.
